ENERinTOWNMonitoring and control of energy consumption in municipal public buildings
The project is intended to meet a need detected and monitor energy consumption in municipally-owned buildings. The project consists of creating the necessary infrastructure (meters, communications, work team, energy data communication and management software) to allow the consumption curve to be viewed in real time. Following analysis of the data, “soft” measures will be taken (mainly targeted at changing users' habits) to allow energy (and economic) savings for the local council.
This project will enable the elimination of two barriers currently hindering introduction of saving measures in municipal areas; lack of knowledge of the consumption profile of the municipal authorities, and lack of specialised personnel on council staff to resolve any energy aspects that arise.
The project includes the following actions:
- Identification of the buildings to be monitored. The municipalities selected were Bakio, Agurain, Derio and Bergara.
- Design and introduction of a system for monitoring gas and power consumption, with continuous transmission of the data over the Internet.
- Creation of the figure of the municipal energy manager, and establishment of a European-wide collaboration methodology.
- Development of software for monitoring and control of the data gathered, backed by a system of scenarios and alarms to help the energy manager to anticipate possible problems.
- Creation of a guide for energy managers.
- Introduction of low-cost measures to help obtain the necessary energy and economic savings.
