Introduction

tienda de electrodomésticos

Energy labels tells you the amount of energy different appliances use. The labels is based on colours and letters from A for the most efficient, to G for the ones that use most energy.

Domestic appliances, homes and vehicles now all have their own labels. Bear them in mind when shopping around.

Labelling of domestic appliances

electrodomésticos

Under European regulations, refrigerators, freezers, driers, washing machines and dishwashers all have to carry labels with information on energy consumption.

It is a good idea to choose domestic appliances with an A label. These consume less energy for the same function and generally speaking these appliances have a wider range of models with higher quality and more durable components.

The label comes in two parts:

  • The standard section gives information on the energy efficiency grade and energy consumption.
  • A variable section gives specific information of interest depending on the type of domestic appliance.
parte superior de la etiqueta

The upper part gives information on the manufacturer and model.

etiqueta: eficiencia energética

Depending on its energy consumption, each apparatus is classed in one of the 7 levels of efficiency, from A (maximum saving) to G (most wastage):

The column on the right gives the appliance’s energy rating

New A+ and A++ ratings have now been added which are even more efficient than A.

parte inferior de la etiqueta

The bottom section lists other items of interest, depending on the type of domestic appliance.

  • Information on water consumption and washing efficiency for washing machines and dishwashers; volume of refrigerator and freezer etc.
  • Electricity consumption in kWh per year.
  • Noise level.

Energy certification of residential buildings

certificado de eficiencia energética

Since 1993, EVE (through its affiliate CADEM), has been issuing energy quality certificates for housing blocks.

Buildings can be awarded a grade of A, B or C.,

The certificate guarantees a comfortable, high-quality and energy-saving home.

Key aspects taken into consideration are:

  • Construction design and materials.
  • Orientation and maximum harnessing of solar power.
  • Insulating materials and walls and roofs.
  • Systems for reducing water consumption.
  • Efficient heating systems.

Energy labelling of vehicles

vehículos

Energy labelling for vehicles is related to CO2 emissions and thus to fuel consumption.

Using biofuels reduces CO emissions from private vehicles even further.
